Voice of America - in Reverse... Since early last month, Sputnik 105.5 FM has been broadcasting in the DC area from studios on K St. NW. It has adapted a political talk show format and is always looking for on-air guests. The editor is Russian-born Mindia Gavaheli (Contact via email: mindia.gavasheli@sputniknews.com; by phone: 202-256-7656). The station broadcasts in English 24 hours a day. One of the hosts is Garland Nixon, who also has a show on WPFW 89.3 FM in DC. His program, "Fault Lines," is a Crossfire-style show dominated by US politics.
Hosts include former a union organizer and a left wing politico. Eugene Puryear hosts “By Any Means Necessary,” a show highlighting the Black Lives Matter movement. One of the few on-air Trump supporters at the station is Lee Stranahan, a former Breitbart reporter.
The station was owned by WAMU 88.5 FM. It now is leased to the Russian government through 2019 by Reston Translator, the current owner.
